World Schools Debate
World Schools Debate (WSD) involves groups of 3-5 people. In a round, only 3 people will speak and any other members will sit out of the round, but the speakers per round may be rotated. Unlike other events, the topic for the debate changes for every meet, making this event great for those who love working in teams as well as those who do not wish to debate on a topic for extended periods of time. Members in WSD will compete in topics regarding the entire world, hence the name of the event. Topics will not be USA-centered often, and use of examples that consider a worldwide perspective are encouraged.
In a debate, there are two sides: the affirmative (aff) and the negation (neg). The affirmative will affirm the resolution and must prove why the resolution is true. The negation must negate the resolution and provide evidence for why the affirmation is incorrect.
Members of this event will also compete in impromptu rounds, a concept unique to WSD. Impromptu rounds are rounds where the topic is provided to the team 60 minutes before their debate, and the team receives 1 hour to prepare for their round. During impromptu rounds, the use of internet is prohibited, and the team may bring 2 reference books. We recommend a dictionary being one of the reference books, and the other reference book could be anything from an almanac to a psychiatry textbook.

World Schools Event Heads
Our WSD Event Heads for the 2023-2024 school year are Angelina Tan and Sara Standish. Angelina has been in debate for her entire high school career, and this is her second year being event head. Angelina would lay down her life for Taylor Swift. This year is Sara's first year as event head. When she's not debating, she competes in DECA and runs the CHS for Choice club.
